Standards are often used in contracts, procedures and as a means of establishing if a person or organization’s conduct has been appropriate.
Professor Dix sits on most of the key standards bodies for both Rail and Road Tunnel in the world.
Professor Dix well understands both the strengths and limitations of standards – he regularly crafts standards for application in unique circumstances.

• Underground Fixed Guide-way Transit Systems Committee NFPA 130  (2004 – 2012+)
• Road Tunnels ( Standard for Road Tunnels, Bridges, and Other Limited Access Highways) Committee  NFPA 502  ( 2005 – 2012+) 

• International Tunnel Insurance Group (ITIG) (2004 – 2012+) including contribution to ITIG’S A Code of Practice for Risk Management of Tunnel Works.
